A Collective Project

This is the prototype version of our website which is the main vehicle of our community project through which we hope to deliver our Project Objectives to the world (listed on our homepage). This is the first version of what we would like it to be in the future. Our website will evolve and improve through a series of versions as our project matures by:

  • Responding to the feedback, suggestions, corrections and additional information from you, our readers, and from our volunteer researchers and helpers
  • Responding to technology improvements over time that will help us improve delivery and presentation of our objectives
  • Responding to additional data that will become available over time, online and in physical archives and other repositories, and will enable us to enhance our stories

Therefore, the new versions of our website partly rely on you, our readers, letting us know about corrections that are needed, suggested improvements and additional information, especially photos of the people in our stories. As far as we currently know, unlike some other county asylums, St. Francis Hospital (Sussex Asylum) did not routinely photograph new patients as they were admitted. We believe that the stories will immediately be improved by the addition of a photo(s) of the people in the stories.

Although this is the prototype version of our website, the stories that we publish on it are about REAL people. They are buried in St. Francis Hospital cemetery which is close to the main entrance of The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Please go to our Contact page to let us have your feedback and/or know about your suggestions, corrections and additional information.
